The Vantage Point Flower Market has been a huge success again this year. There have been a great variety of items available for your home, garden and yard. Beautiful hanging baskets full of gorgeous flowers and greenery, soil and decorative stone for your landscaping needs, a large selection of vegetable and herb plants for your gardening pleasure, and decorative wood sculptures and signage to highlight and personalize your yard.
We can’t forget those great people who provide food and drink during the Flower Market. Lily’s Woodfire Pizza providing the most delectable pizza around, The Mackinac Island Ice Cream Trailer offering scrumptious frozen treats, and the fry trailer is open again this year under new management. Are you looking forward to next year’s already?
Port Huron is a unique and beautiful place, from the waterways, bridges, boats, and freighters to the architecture, landscapes, and skies, there are many sites that can only be found in the maritime center that is Port Huron. Here is the first in a series of slideshows featuring Port Huron’s picturesque beauty and unique individuality.
It is almost time for the start of the race. There are 27 boats that are going to make an appearance in seven different classes today. It is a beautiful day, so come on down and enjoy the good music, great food, and THUNDER on the River! I’m heading out to get more pictures for the next post….stay tuned for more race coverage.
What a glorious morning! I just walked down to the Great Lakes Maritime Center at Vantage Point for my morning coffee and blog post (Hey, its better for my diet than coffee and a donut!), and the sun is shinning, the water is glistening, and the geese are poopin’, ah summer in Port Huron. Is there anything better? Yes! It is race day on the St Clair River. Thunder on the water and excitement in the air, it is going to be a great day to be down at Desmond Landing. Race Village opens at 10:00 am today, folks and the race starts at noon. There will be a DJ spinning sounds until 2:00 when the band will take the stage. Come down early and get a good seat to watch the Powerboats compete on the course that runs from turns 1 & 2 south of the “Bean Dock” near Mercy hospital, up the river to turns 3 & 4 near City Hall. Let’s have a moment of silence, pray if you believe, for the safety of the drivers, crew members, and spectators today…Godspeed, Ladies and Gentlemen.
It was an awesome sight to see and even more of a responsibility being the operator of the crane when they pulled the boats out of the Black River this afternoon after the Meet & Greet for the drivers in Canada. I thought you might like to see the series of lifts, turns, and lowering that these very expensive boats went through between the water and their trailers. I hope you enjoy this slide show. Thanks for visiting my blog, I write it for every one of you.
The time trials are going on now in front of the Great Lakes maritime Center at Vantage Point. The vendors are open for business and the DJ is keeping the music flowing. It is a beautiful day to be out enjoying the sights and sounds of the first annual Port Huron/Sarnia International Powerboat Race time trials.
Race Village at Vantage Point/Desmond Landingwill officially open to the public today at noon. The time trials is scheduled to begin at 10:30 am and should continue through 3:30 pm. Live music is set to start at 3:00 pm and will rock the Landing until midnight. There are some local vendors with an array of goods from beer to food to sunglasses and more. The beer tent opens at noon today and at 10:00 am on Sunday.
Sunglass Factory (810)359-8502
Dede, at the Sunglass Factory will be more than happy to help outfit you with a pair of sunglasses that will protect your eyes from the sun and the glare of the sun on the water. The wonderful folks at Lily’s Woodfire Pizza will be more than happy to feed everyone in your party the most delectable pizza pie you can imagine. Race crews will be selling shirts and more and there are several other food vendors around the lot. A bit on last nights band, for all you Reggae fans out there, I hope you made it to the show, because they were good. There were several surprising remixes I heard last night (Micheal Jackson songs done with a reggae beat?!), but they did a wonderful job of making their sound sound good. Thank you to “The Roots Vibration” for a nice show. So, come on down to Desmond Landing/Vantage Point and check things out, if the temps get to stifling today, remember the Great lakes Maritime Center has air-conditioning, and food and drinks are available at the Coffee Harbor.
