Last weeks market

Last weeks market – First of the year

It has begun….another great year of the Vantage Point Farmer’s Market.

At the first market there were new faces and old friends…many vendors are returning this year to offer their wares and what a wide selection available this year.

In the past there were 2 markets offered…the Farmer’s Market on Saturdays and the Arts and Crafts Fair on Sundays. This year the two are combined to offer a one day a week event that provides shoppers the convenience of a one day shopping trip with the variety of both markets.

Saturday, May 18, the Port Huron Cash Mob group has chosen the market as the site for this week’s Mob event. Not sure what a cash mob is? It is a way for local residents and visitors alike to offer support to local area businesses. What better way to support our area than stopping down to Vantage Point Farmer’s Market and purchasing you spring planting necessities, some new garden or lawn art, a delicious bacon topped cupcake (really! they are wonderful!), or maybe a new picture to hang on your wall at home.

Vantage Point Farmer’s Market, located next to the mouth of the Black River, is a wonderful place to spend any Saturday, but Cash Mob Saturday, May 18, may prove to be the most fun you will have shopping this month!first day at R n R market 006 first day at R n R market 009

Really!

Paul Jr. designed and built this awesome machine for the March of Dimes and they are raffling it off. The drawing will be held on November 19, 2012 in Grand Rapids, MI.

Tickets are $20 each and can be obtained through Lamarconstruction.com or at the many showings of this bike across the state of Michigan this year.

beautiful lines

I was at Angry Bull Steakhouse tonight for the unveiling of this beautiful bike. What a crowd! It was a great way for them to kick off the 2012 season of Bike Night which is held there every Wednesday night.

Very sleek and sexy ride

Lamar Construction, headquartered in Hudsonville, MI,  commissioned Paul Jr. Designs to build this phenomenal machine for the event they are calling Custom Built for Babies.

100 percent of the proceeds will go to the March of Dimes to assist them in their continued service to babies who are born too early and to their families. For more information of how you can help support the March of Dimes or join the March for Babies go here.

And now, for more pictures from this great afternoon at the Angry Bull.

Port Huron is a unique and beautiful place, from the waterways, bridges, boats, and freighters to the architecture, landscapes, and skies, there are many sites that can only be found in the maritime center that is Port Huron.  Here is the first in a series of slideshows featuring Port Huron’s picturesque beauty and unique individuality.

The Raven Cafe

The Raven Cafe

I finally was offered the opportunity to enjoy the experience of a first-time visit to the Raven Cafe.  As we walked in the door, my daughter turned to me and said, “I could so see you owning a place like this Mom”.  I don’t see that, but I do see me spending a lot of time there.  There is a very warm and welcoming ambiance which surrounds you as you walk in the door.  A writer’s dream, and a really nice place for anyone, the Raven offers free WIFI, great music, a great staff (I wish I would have gotten more names, maybe next time), and a decor catering to the literary side of history.

The Raven Cafe is located at 932 Military Street in downtown Port Huron in a reconstructed Civil War era building.  It houses over 8,000 books on shelves lining the walls and couches are furnished for a comfortable reading atmosphere.  The Raven’s beverage menu is accommodating to even the most choosy of palates with “over 100 hot and cold concoctions” using a variety of coffees, teas, styles, and flavorings.  I can recommend the signature flavored, Raspberry Cream, certified organic, Yerba Mate Chiller.  I’m going to try a Chai Tea Chiller on my next visit.
